Need help with a potted Ginkgo tree?
I have a Ginkgo tree which I got for a present 3 yrs ago …it’s about 3 ft tall but still in a pot . I’m now wondering if I can continue to let it grow in the pot or does it need to be planted into the ground . I have just been told they grow very big and I really don’t want such a big tree in my garden ….any tips / links /advice from tree lovers …also it continues to grow every year but very very slow .
You want it in a pot grow it in a pot. Wet it down well and remove it from the pot. You should have white roots running around the inside of the pot. Cut off an inch of roots all the way around the rootball. Two inches off the bottom. Replace the bottom with fresh soil. Replace the rootball and fill in all around the inside with fresh soil and water well.
Cut back the limbs. First remove any that are crossed. Cut out any damaged or diseased ones. Cut back any that don’t look right for the shape you want. Cut back to about a quarter inch above the leaves . The leaves on a limb are hiding a little branch waiting to pop out. This will cause the remaining branches to be shorter but fuller.
More severely this is the way Bonsais are trimmed and look how little they stay. You are not going to hurt your tree with this type of root and limb trimming. Just do it. Next year and on all other trees you’ll soon be the expert all your friends will ask to teach them to keep their container plants reined in.
Its growing slowly because the roots are so crammed in you can’t properly feed and water the plant. It will grow better when you prune it down and give the roots a chance. You’ll love pruning it to keep it the shape and size you want it to be.

How can I revive my potted conifer tree?
I have a potted conifer tree at the front door of my flat. It is inside the apartment building, so does not get direct sunlight. I keep it well watered but it seems to dry out and lose it’s green colour (going pale, dry and brittle).
Is there any way I can save it?

it’s a conifer… an outside plant… it cannot survive without sunlight… full sunlight…. extra water doesn’t make up for lack of light….
